To Dad

Sounds better than my meal of frozen lasagna that a member dropped off for us on Sunday. But I should not complain. Just to say that serving in the United States has its advantages. Glad to hear Zach Johnson won. Cubs sound like the cubs.

Well my area is very different from my old area. My area now is very close to where I started my mission in Jatoba. Unfortunately that means that the cars that drive around with giant speakers are back along with lots of noise. I forgot that my other area did not have these things until they were back now. But the house is good and large. Lots of mosquitoes at night but I have a mosquito net that goes over my bed so it is not a problem. I picked it up when Elder Oliveira went home.

My companion is from Peru. We live alone which is always a bummer but he likes to talk and is cool so it is not too bad. It seems like Fortaleza has lots of problems because all of the elders from other countries in South America complain about things here. Obviously things are better in the States than here but it seems like that is the same case in other south american countries.  I am sure here is better than India.

I am serving in my first Branch. Sunday there were about 45 people there. Some members live out of the limits of the branch but that is a whole other problem with a story that is too long to write here. But I will do my best with Elder Cachay to help the branch in the time that I am here.

It is best not to think about home yet. I will start to think about home and what I will do when I have about two weeks left. It is always better to stay focused on the work here for the time being. But do not worry I will let you know the things I want to do in the next few weeks. One of them might be a trip to Nauvoo for the day but we will have to see.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. Onward I go.

Lots of Love,

Will

Sorry it has been so hot. At least you have air conditioning. What a blessing. The only places that have air conditioning are grocery stores and the church. I am glad to hear that Anne likes to work. It is a quality that more people need. Maybe you should visit Jane one of these day just to say hi? One of the things I have learned on my mission is the importance of visiting someone for 15 minutes. It is such a simple thing but can do so much.

Glad Kate is closer to her work. A 1 hour commute is a long ways. It seems like you have traveled a lot recently. Or at least since the beginning of this year until now. That would be fun to play ( a musical number) with Anne.

I will send an email to Dad about the area and everything so I do not have to write it twice. Saves me lots of time. So just make sure to read it. It seems like Anne is developing into quite a nice person. Which is nice to see. Thanks for the email as always. I got a letter from the ctr 4 primary class today if you would like to inform them that I it arrived and I am thankful for the letter.

Davis and some of the other guys I hung out with like Aaron Lin and Blaise want me to drive up with them and see Max when I am back. I think it would be a nice thing to do. But I want to spend the maximum amount of time I can at home, so let me know what you think about this and if you approve what days would be best. It would not be a long trip if anything.

Lots of love,

Will

I know I need to open up more. But it is so hard for me. I have made a goal though that I will be better with everything. The week was good but a little frustrating. The couple that are really good did not go to church. The man named Erivaldo played soccer at the church (we invited him) and he got a bunch of blisters and could not walk well so they did not go to church. It was a little bit of a bummer. But we brought a 25 year old named Junior to church and his Dad. His Dad cannot read but he is very humble and they are some good prospects to be baptized. I love working with people that are humble. Other than that the week was good. I am off to my new and final area tomorrow.  I will miss lots of the ward members . My new area is called Granja Portugal. I hope that it is good. I have lots of faith that things will be alright. It anything it is just 6 weeks if I am not happy.

Sorry to hear that the sisters did not get the investigator with your help. Does our ward have sisters or elders and how many companionships?  It is a tough sell. People are not willing to try something new lots of times. Change is something that people have lots of difficulties with. Including me. It is good to see Anne continues to grow and develop. It has always been nice to keep in contact with her. And everyone in the family. I am sure you  are happy to have mom home. Please pray for me. The end of my adventure starts tomorrow.

Love ya,

Will

Sounds like a good time to go with Kate to Logan to see Oliver so I do not see why not. Sounds like a fun time. I am glad you had a fun time in Utah. But I am sure you are glad to be home. I am sure Dad and Anne are as well. I will probably want a mountain bike for college but nothing too expensive. I have always enjoyed riding a bike.

I will be transferred to a new area. It is called Granja Portugal. I know who my companion is and I am not too excited but I cannot judge a book by its cover so we will see what happens. But if anything it is only 6 weeks as well. My last week was good here in Jardim das Oliveiras. I will miss lots of things. Especially the people I baptized. I did not baptize lots but the people I baptized are very good and will stay in the church. It was sad for me to say goodbye. I have already said goodbye to some people as I half expected to leave this week. I will also miss the house we live in as it is very good, but hopefully I live with 4 guys in my next house. It always helps me feel better.

Tell Anne she should go to BYU. Haha. I love you. I have missed you guys a lot.

Love ,

Will

The weather here has been nice as the air is cooler than other parts of the year. The only hard part is the sun is still very warm. But after hearing about many other missions in Brazil, it is really not very hot here. The ocean breeze always keeps me cool. It is too bad I cannot go swimming in the ocean. There are some really great beaches here. Or so I hear. Maybe we can go on a vacation on Markem's boat and stop by Fortaleza. It is a long ways but he could use his captain skills to get us there. Haha.

I forgot did you sell her Mercedes? If so who did you sell it to? I am sure I make it difficult to report to other people how I am doing. Sorry about that. Just a personality thing I guess. I will be more open when I come back. At least that is one of my goals. As for helping me get ready for school. Just plan some doctor appointments and a dentist visit when I get back and that should be good. BYU will have a tough time (football) with these schools, but it is good competition.

As for missionary work the week was good. We were only able to have two people at church but they are a young couple who are very good. We will try to baptize them this weekend but they want to take things a little bit slower which is understandable but a little annoying for a missionary. Everyone who goes to church likes it. The churches here are very pretty. We also found some other youth that we are teaching that are going to to got church this week. Along with a kid we are helping reactivate who is 14 and lives in a house that people here call "humble". Poverty is not terrible here but it is very visible. Should be my last week in the area. I am hoping for a change of location to give me a little more fire for my last transfer. Lots of love. Give the dogs some love for me.

Love,

Will

Mid July

I am sure that it was great for you to go to the temple. Recently I have missed you guys (my family) more than usual. I think it is because I have the thought that I will actually be able to see you soonish. Either way I would love to go with you guys to the temple when we drive out there.  I always liked your brothers but I remember liking hanging out with Myke and Lucy. That is a beautiful temple. Utah has some of the best looking temples. You do not realize the blessings of having a temple close until you live in a part of the world like here where the temple is 12 hours aways by bus and it is very expensive for people here to pay to go. I miss the temple. The last time I went was in Sao Paulo more than 10 months ago. All the temples that I have been to on my mission I have stayed in one room. Nauvoo is still my favorite. My other mission visited the temple once a year but this mission does not due to the fact that we would have to go to Recife.

Yes, the holy ghost will always lead us back to church. I will buy lots of things to bring home in about a month. Until then I will not worry to much. Transfers are next tuesday the 21st. So I will know about my last transfer next Monday. I am sorry that visas still take forever. My FBI clearance took just 6 weeks. I sent Robinson an email today. He goes home on the 21st of July. It is always better not to think about going home so I have not planned much before I leave. But I have decided that I am going to leave all my pants except for a couple khakis and all of my white shirts except for a couple. As for ties I will bring some with me and leave the rest. Let me know if that is okay and what you think.

It will interesting to see who will be the new apostles won't it? It is quite a calling as your release comes when you dies. I will inform Dad on the missionary work here and how the week went. It saves me time instead of having to write it twice. Hope your Math conference is going well. Ask Anne to send you photos that I sent, they are taking forever to upload right now.

That sounds like it could be a fun trip to do ( going to Logan, UT to see Oliver and family in the fall). Is Abbie still doing Marine Biology? Kate sent me a picture of her car. She bought a good looking one.

Seems like all the mormons that I know leave Iowa and go to a different state. I am really glad we did not move to a different state when I was on my mission. And I hope we do not in the future. I will not get travel plans for another 5 weeks or so, but I will come home the morning of September 2nd almost positive. Yes, my last transfer is in 2 weeks. Hope all is well. I will update dad about the work here so you can read that email as well. Glad you are enjoying your math conference. Is your hotel nice? Send me a picture if you have time. I have always loved hotels. Where did Kate meet this guy? Where did he serve a mission? I have to be brief due to time today, sorry.

Lots of Love,

Will

June 28

Hi Mom,
Yes I remembered that this Saturday is the 4th of July. Does that mean that no one gets work off because it is on a Saturday? That would be a bummer. No Kate did not tell me she got a car but she needs to send me a picture and tell me what kind. My current companion and I like to talk about all the cars we see and the different kinds as our area has a big road in the middle of it. So we see lots of cool cars. Anne and Dad told me they already miss you. Thanks for the pictures. Sometimes I forget how nice the things we have are. Jeesh.

Anne looks great without her braces and I approve of her glasses as well. I think she looks better with glasses. I am not sure I will see Robinson before he goes home. He goes home in three weeks. Sorry you were not able to go to a baseball game. You were always very good at attending my games. I heard from about everyone today other than Joe but I think last week he sent me an email. Conner Gilette is off to the Middle East right now for the navy and Joe told me he is doing some Jazz music camp in Seattle this summer. My other friends are just hanging out in Des Moines. I had lots of emails to respond to today so I have to be brief. Have a great time in Utah.

Things for me here are pretty much the same. I have adjusted to my new companion and I like the members in this ward. If all goes well we should baptize a 14 year old girl this Sunday. Just have to see if her parents are okay with it. Which is never easy. We have interviews on Thursday with President. My last interview with him until my last day in Fortaleza where he does an exit interview. Thank you for the funeral pictures. I will download them today and look at them on the zen player which I frequently use.

Enjoy Utah!

Will

I saw on a member's phone that the Caviliers lost. But they should lose without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. When I was in Washington I heard that the U.S. Open would be there  so when I passed the course I took a photo. It is a beautiful course.

I am starting to like my new companion more which is good. Living with only one elder is always tough but I think this will be my last transfer in this area. I think I will stay one transfer in my next area and end my mission. But who knows. We found some cool families at the beginning of the week who I thought were really good but at the end of the week they did not go to church and we ended up cutting one of them. Luckily a non-member who always goes to church but does not want to be baptized invited a family to our ward conference. They are cool and humble and we will start to teach them this week. So I am excited for that.

Good luck with your test. Study hard. It is hard to believe but I miss studying. I think it is funny that many people here will not study in the schools here because it is 'hard' but will end up doing construction every day in the blazing hot sun. The absence of parents teaching their children principles is very evident in this part of the world.

Unfortunatly I do not have much to say this week as well. Mom shared with me the photos from the funeral. I do not think I remember seeing your brother David smile. Wish I could have been there.

Here is the picture of the Golf Course. And a cool new corvette. And Brazil.

Love,

Will
